Energy Regulation

About the department

In the last decade, the energy sector in Israel has undergone comprehensive reforms that have far-reaching implications for the energy sector and for the State of Israel as a whole. The department’s team provided counsel and represented many companies in a variety of different reforms, including the Gas Framework, the reform of the electricity sector, the change of the taxation system in relation to natural resources, a new policy regarding the transfer of gas and oil rights, a new regulation on oil and gas exploration and drilling companies (E&P companies), the enactment of the Anti-Concentration Law and more.

It should also be noted that Michael Macchia, a partner in the energy department, served for the past decade as the legal counsel to Israel’s Electricity Authority. During his tenure at the Authority, Michael provided counsel for the main transformations in the electricity market, including the entry of private industry into the market, he led the promotion of regulation for the integration of renewable energies into the electricity grid and he took part in constructing the reform in the electricity sector and Israel Electric Corporation.
