Itay Hass

Biography

Itay Hass is the head of the insolvency department at our Tel Aviv office.

Itay advises on all aspects of insolvency law, including corporate restructuring, liquidation, proceedings regarding the liability of officers, individual debtors (bankruptcy) as well as receivership.

Itay is often appointed by courts as trustee in complex cases for a diverse set of companies. He was appointed as trustee for the assets of Co-op Israel Cooperative Consumer Association Ltd. (under moratorium), as joint trustee for the large construction company A. Dori Construction Ltd., and as receiver for a complex real estate project worth ILS 250,000,000.

He also provides regular advice regarding insolvency to the firm’s high-tech, capital market and real estate practices.

Itay has extensive experience in representing various institutions, creditors or debtors, whether they are huge corporations, business partnerships, cooperatives and associations, or individuals involved in rehabilitation and recovery proceedings, or in providing counsel on the liquidation of companies and in bankruptcy proceedings. He acts for large business clients, including public or private companies in real estate, communications, insurance, retail, agriculture and energy industries and has specific expertise with respect to cooperative societies.

Prior to joining the firm, Itay served five years as the Director of the Legal Department of the Administrator General and the Official Receiver at the Ministry of Justice. In this role, he represented the ICRC in the most complex insolvency cases conducted in the Israeli economy, formulated legal policy and published guidelines and protocols for the division’s attorneys and officials (trustees, liquidators, etc.)

Itay serves as senior lecturer of insolvency law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Law School and at Sapir Academic College.

  • Served in a proceeding as trustee of the Co-op Israel Cooperative Association. 100% of the association’s debts, worth tens of millions of shekels, were repaid and ILS 20,000,000 was distributed among the association’s members.
  • Served as a (joint) trustee for U. Dori. This is one of the largest and most complex insolvency cases conducted in Israel, with debts totaling approximately ILS 1.3 billion.
  • Advised Cellcom in a complex debt settlement with Marathon and Xfone.
