Biography

Eddie Ashkenazi is a partner in the Energy and infrastructure department at our Tel Aviv office.

Eddie specializes in commercial law, with particular focus on international energy projects and transactions, mainly oil and gas, electricity production and renewable energy related transactions and regulations.

With in-depth knowledge and extensive experience of 15 years in all facets of the Israeli energy industry, Eddie advises all the project partners in the most significant gas discoveries in Israel over the last two decades and in recent years has been involved in transactions, including complex cross-border transactions, valued over US$50 billion. He has also extensive experience in midstream projects, particularly pipeline transportation and distribution, cross-border transportation, offshore operations and natural gas marketing.

Eddie represents a large number of leading independent electricity producers and renewable energy companies in various projects in Israel and abroad, including investments in electricity production, renewable energy and energy storage technology companies and start-ups. Eddie provides ongoing legal consultation in relation to oil and gas, electricity and renewable energy projects and large-scale commercial transactions, and represents major Israeli and international energy corporations.

Eddie is consistently ranked atop international rating guides (Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, IFLR 1000) as one of Israel’s leading lawyers in the field of energy.

In 2023, Eddie was ranked ‘Leading Individual’ in the Legal 500 international ranking guide based on his professional work and his clients’ reviews.

  • Representing the partners in the Tamar reservoir and the partners in the Leviathan reservoir in the negotiations of all natural gas and condensate sale agreements to customers in Israel and export agreements to Egypt and Jordan.
  • Advising the Tamar and Leviathan partners on the US$15 billion gas export deal to Egypt, including representation in the negotiations of the export agreements and the transportation agreements in Israel and Egypt, as well as obtaining the required approvals and permits in Israel.
  • Representing New Med Energy (formerly Delek Drilling) in the sale of its interests in the Tamar reservoir to Mubadala Petroleum owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, totalling approximately US$1 billion. This transaction was the first major deal between a company from Israel and a state-owned company from Abu Dhabi.
  • Advising the Doral Group in the initiation, development, construction and operation of renewable energy, energy storage and EV charging projects in Israel, Europe and the U.S. and investment deals in technology companies and startups in the energy field.
